Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Course Requirements and Structure

• SB2 requires initial CCW classes to be 16 hours. How is the course structured?
Our course is divided into two days: classroom instruction on Saturday and range qualification on Sunday. This extended format ensures a thorough understanding of California’s complex firearm laws and provides time for practical, hands-on training.

• I heard SB2 made it illegal to carry my firearm in public. Is that true?
Not entirely. SB2 has since been revised to include both "permitted" and "prohibited" carry zones. Stay informed on current regulations and carry accordingly.

• I'm new to firearms and worried about the live fire qualification.
Don't worry — you will receive all the necessary instruction and support to successfully complete the qualification. Keep in mind, continued practice beyond the class is essential for maintaining proficiency.

• I lost my course certificate. Can I get a replacement?
Yes. If it's within six months of course completion, contact us and we’ll arrange for a replacement.

• How long are course certificates valid?
Certificates from any initial or renewal CCW course are valid for six months.

Class Logistics and Locations

• Do you offer private classes?
Yes. We offer private instruction at homes, businesses, and churches. Contact us with your details, and we’ll help you schedule a session.

• What happens if it rains on class day?
Our classes are held rain or shine. Please come prepared for all weather conditions.

• Is ammunition included in the course fee?
No. We are not a firearms or ammunition dealer, so ammunition must be purchased separately.

• How much ammunition do I need?
In Kings, Fresno, and Tulare counties, each firearm listed on your permit must be fired once, fully loaded, at a distance of five yards. Kern County has a specific course of fire (12 Rounds). Bring at least enough to fully load each firearm once. We recommend bringing extra in case additional work is needed.

• Where are your classes held?
We offer training at two professional locations:

  • Porterville: 19229 Ave 152, Porterville - Accommodates up to 35 students.
  • Visalia: 37580 Road 132, Visalia - Accommodates up to 20 students.

Permits and Renewals

• How many firearms can I list on my California CCW permit?
Most counties allow between 3 to 10 firearms. Please verify with your county sheriff's office.

• Am I guaranteed a California CCW permit if I take your class?
No. We provide the training required for the application process, but permit issuance is at the discretion of your county sheriff.

• I’m from Tulare, Kings, Kern, or Fresno County. Can I attend your class?
Yes. Practical Training Solutions is an approved vendor for Tulare, Kins, Kern and Fresno Counties.

• Tulare County: How long can I be expired before I must retake the initial course?
